City Youth Servant Saturday | The FORGE for Families

This past Saturday, October 2nd, City Youth participated in a service project for one of our mission partners, The FORGE for Families. The FORGE for Families’ focus is on the long-term development of students in Houston’s Third Ward by providing an encouraging after school environment. The City Youth’s specific service project was focused on the campus playground. The FORGE received a donation of new mulch for their playground and in an effort to cut costs, they asked for volunteers to help transport the mulch from the incoming shipment packages to the playground. Working alongside other Houston churches, Second Baptist and City of Refuge, City Church’s youth really impressed the group with their hard work and leadership skills. Using shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, and heavy lifting, and despite the downpour of rain, the group was determined to see the project to completion. By noon on Saturday, The FORGE for Families has a new, ready-to-use playground floor that the Third Ward kids will enjoy this week – this is fun to envision! I am very proud of how the youth represented City Church – their diligent efforts, commitment to completing the project, and teamwork were outstanding! This project was the first of a new City Youth initiative launching this year called Servant Saturdays. We plan to have one Servant Saturday a month going forward, hope to see you there!
