Leo Schuster

Lead Pastor
Leo Schuster is the Lead Pastor of City Church. As an ordained pastor for twenty-nine years, Leo’s ministry has reached from Texas to New York City. He started and led two college ministries in Dallas, founded and pastored Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Houston, and most recently served as the Lead Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s East Side Congregation in New York City where he was directly mentored by Tim Keller. Leo and his wife, Ellen, have three adult daughters: Anna, Margaret, and Mary Caroline. They also have one grandson, James.

Valerie Tompson

Executive Director
Valerie Tompson is the Executive Director at City Church where she oversees all ministry areas, as well as the operations and finances of the church. She grew up in Houston, attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and recently completed an MBA at Duke University. She has worked in church finance and administration for fourteen years, previously holding a similar role at Christ the King Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Matt, is a physician, and they have three children: Mary Shannon, Rachel, and Will.

Elise Mueller

Executive Assistant
Elise Mueller is the Executive Assistant at City Church where she assists Leo and Valerie and has touchpoints with all areas of ministry. Elise grew up outside of Chicago and attended Texas Christian University where she majored in speech communication. She is married to Jonathan, and they have four children: James, Luke, Jacob, and Kate.

Joy Hanna

Worship Arts Manager
Joy Hanna is the Worship Arts Manager at City Church and leads the worship services each week. Joy felt called into a music ministry at the early age of eleven when she started writing songs. She then began leading worship for her church in Virginia, recording her original songs, and touring. Joy graduated from Liberty University and served on staff as a worship leader at McLean Bible Church for two years before she and her husband, Andrew, moved to Houston. Joy continues to write songs and use her voice to illuminate the liberating truth of God’s Word. You can hear her music at

Kris Noland

Communications & Media Coordinator
Kris Noland is the Communications and Media Coordinator at City Church where he manages all print and digital communications. Kris is a native Houstonian and spent most of his twenties playing in various bands around town. He also worked with Josh Moore as Assistant Recording Engineer at Castle Bravo Studios. He plays the piano/synthesizer and guitar.

Ayo Omopariola

Pastoral Resident
Ayo Omopariola is the Pastoral Resident at City Church where he preaches, supports community development, and provides pastoral care. He was born in Nigeria and grew up in Wichita, Kansas and Fort Worth, Texas. He did his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Houston and seminary work at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has spent a decade serving in various ministry roles in both college and local church ministries. Ayo and his wife, Amaechi, have two sons: Ezra and Simeon.

Jennifer Welch

City Youth Coordinator | Interim City Kids Coordinator
Jennifer Welch is a City Youth coordinator. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in youth development and then worked on staff for Young Life in Jasper, Georgia. Jennifer most recently served as the children’s coordinator at City Church for three years as she pursed her degree in counseling. Jennifer is now working as a licensed professional counselor intern.

Clint Wilson

Pastoral Intern & City Youth Coordinator
Clint Wilson is the Pastoral Intern and City Youth coordinator at City Church where he supports the church community through his involvement with City Group and City Youth outreach. Clint moved to Houston via West Virginia, Wake Forest University, Edinburgh, and Philadelphia. As a PhD candidate in English at Rice University, he is particularly interested in how literature and the arts shape questions of faith, and vice versa. Clint and his wife Natalie, a clinical social worker, live in Montrose with their dog Huckleberry Finn.
