Ever feel like God is silent when you need him the most? Where do we turn in those moments? The Old Testament book of Esther doesn’t offer easy answers or sentimental clichės. Instead it presents a powerful story of hope, filled with timeless lessons to help us navigate life’s darkest moments with faith and strength.
Esther’s name means “star,” and that she was–a courageous heroine in an extraordinary story for the ages. Set in a distant and exotic land, her tale follows an unexpected rise from obscurity to royalty, just in time to use her influence to stop a sinister plot of mass genocide.
But something else makes the book of Esther especially intriguing: God is never mentioned. Not once. There are no miracles, no prayers, no direct signs of divine intervention. While this may seem strange for a book of the Bible, this absence is intentional. It’s a literary device to highlight the hidden hand of God at work.
