Plato said the most important part of a work is the beginning. It’s when something new is being shaped into what it will be. That’s what is happening right now in the early days of City Church.
For our first year’s final sermon series—The Church in the City—we’ll journey back to the very beginning of the church. The original church planting narrative, the Book of Acts, captures the adventures of the first generation of Christianity. Full of stirring accounts of the establishment of the church in prominent cities of the ancient world, Acts starts in Jerusalem and ends in Rome.
These stories will personally motivate us to live authentic lives as modern, urban followers of Jesus. They’ll also shape us more into the church we’re called to be: an outward-facing, gospel-centered, culture-building movement in the city of Houston.
Each sermon will also be designed with the outsider in mind. For those who don’t believe or aren’t sure what they believe, this series aims to give a disarmingly fresh look at the church as it is supposed to be and give a glimpse of what we aspire to be at City Church.
What can you do to help? The most important thing any of us can do is invite others to our worship services. I’m so grateful to all of you who are already regularly doing this. By God’s grace, lives are being changed in our midst. Pray this continues.
