Comfort

The persistent temptation of our spiritual lives is to choose momentary security over long-term flourishing. The story of exile and the people’s return to the city of Jerusalem is a reminder—for any season of life—that true and lasting comfort is found in the presence of God alone.

How can we as modern people trust that the Bible, written by humans, is true? How can we believe all that it says about us and God? How do we find real peace, comfort, and courage in a world often punctuated with pain? The answer to these and many other questions lie in what Jesus taught his followers about the Holy Spirit.

Simeon’s Song celebrates a God who draws near to us in order to draw us out from a place of fear and weakness, just as he models in the life and faith of Mary.

This song of ascent is a song of security. As we journey through life, no matter how we walk or what we encounter, we are protected by God; and he never sleeps on the job.

Advent signals comfort is on the way. Relief won’t ultimately come from others, who’s faithfulness is fragile like flowers of the field, but through God’s Word that endures forever. In his Word we can discover the glory of the Lord that alleviates our distress.
