Prayers of the Community

Litany of Local Mission

by Linc Ashby

Leader: Father, there are so many pockets of brokenness in our city, but there are also so many people who are painting pictures of beauty in these broken places.

People: Today, we join our voices to pray for our ministry partners as they seek to renew the city of Houston with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Leader: It continues to grieve us that Houston is a major hub for human trafficking.

People: We pray for our friends at The Landing as they seek to provide a place where victims can be cared for, nurtured and encouraged.

Leader: Low income communities are often filled with disintegrated families, who suffer more acutely from a poverty of being than a lack of material resources.

People: We pray for our friends at the Forge for Families, Agape Development and Generation One as they seek to transform their neighborhoods by preparing Christ-following, independent, community leaders and entire families to fulfill their God-given potential.

Leader: Homelessness, hunger, a lack of adequate clothing and substance abuse are the tragic realities for many precious souls in our city.

People: We pray for our friends at the Star of Hope as they encourage recovery for those battling addiction and as they provide shelter for those, who, like Jesus have no place to lay their head.  We also pray for our friends at Kids Meals and the Emergency Aid Coalition as they feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and welcome the stranger.

Leader: Work is a wonderful gift, which is why the lack of steady employment is so painful.

People: We pray for our friends at the Work Faith Connection, not only as they seek to equip their clients with opportunities for future employment, but also as they encourage us all to see our story as part of God's larger story.

Leader: In many communities all over our city educational inequities are more prevalent than educational options.

People: We pray for our friends at Yellowstone Academy as they seek to answer the challenge of this crisis by providing a school where every child receives an education that cultivates their intellect, nourishes their spirit, and empowers them to create a fulfilling future.

Leader: Jesus, as we have reflected on the brokenness around us, we can't help but become more aware of the brokenness within us.

People: Holy Spirit, as we seek to renew the city of Houston by bringing the beauty of Jesus Christ into broken places, please help us to always be keenly aware of our own desperate brokenness apart from the beauty of your grace in our lives.  Amen.
