New City Church Global Mission Partner: IJM

We are so excited about our new global ministry partner, International Justice Mission (IJM). IJM is a community of Christian spiritual formation that is engaged in the work of biblical justice in the developing world. It works to protect the poor from violence and partners with local authorities to rescue victims, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors and strengthen justice systems. The long-term vision is to rescue thousands, protect millions, and prove that justice for the poor is possible. IJM has a presence in 17 communities around the world.

City Church will be partnering specifically with the Mumbai (India) field office. Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, is the most populous city in India with over 12 million people. The IJM Mumbai field office’s casework focuses on sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a form of modern slavery in which someone coerces another person into commercial sex or exploits a child in the commercial sex trade; it thrives when law enforcement either cannot or does not protect vulnerable children and women. Mumbai is considered India's financial capital and often known as the city of opportunities, but it has also emerged as a major destination for global sex trafficking.

The Mumbai field office has been working in the area since 2000 and partners with several churches in the area as well as local law enforcement to pursue all four areas of IJM’s mission: rescuing victims, bringing criminals to justice, restoring survivors, and strengthening the justice systems. Working together they have brought hundreds of girls and young women to freedom. To learn more about a recent rescue in Mumbai, click here.

Through this partnership City Church will have the opportunity to develop rapport and relationship with the field office staff in Mumbai and also plans to develop a partnership with one of the IJM’s Mumbai partner churches. There will be more information on this in the coming months.

IJM cites Isaiah 1:17 as a core commitment. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with them.

Defend the oppressed.
