City Church Hires Team to Lead Children’s Ministry

We love children at City Church and have placed a high priority on identifying an exceptional team to lead this ministry. We are therefore delighted to announce that Kim Stephenson will be joining our staff as the Director of Children’s Ministry and Spring Rawlings will serve as a consultant to us.

Kim is a South Carolina native and a “PK” (pastor’s kid). She developed a passion for children at an early age and has worked extensively in both children’s and youth areas. As a graduate of Covenant College, Kim studied counseling and youth ministry while volunteering at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. She volunteered in the children's ministry, led Bible studies for middle school girls and started the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at her local high school.

In the summers, Kim was a youth intern at a church in Florida, a camp counselor at Ridge Haven, and she traveled with a sports ministry team coaching soccer and tennis while ministering to children ages 4 through 8th grade. Interestingly, she has even led the children’s ministry at a church plant in Chattanooga.

Kim also has management experience in both the real estate and insurance industries. She and her husband, Tim, moved to Houston in August 2014. They have a son, Knox, who is 9 months old.

In addition to leading the Children’s Ministry, Kim will assist in City Church's Youth Ministry by leading a girl’s Bible Study this fall.

We are also very fortunate to have Spring Rawlings join us as a consultant to our Children’s Ministry. Spring has served as the Children’s Ministry Director at Intown Community Church in Atlanta and most recently as the Children’s Director at Redeemer Presbyterian Church’s East Side congregation in New York City.  She and her husband Rob, along with their daughters, Parker, Kendall, and their son, Dash, recently moved from NYC to Macon GA., to be closer to family. She will consult in Houston occasionally and remotely each week.

“I could not be more excited about what the Lord has provided for us,” remarked Leo Schuster. "What a dynamic duo! Kim will be a superb Children’s Ministry Director. Given her experience leading a Children’s Ministry in a church plant, combined with her extensive experience in Youth Ministry, she will craft an outstanding program for children, and one that effectively engages older children, helping them transition into adolescence. And having worked with Spring for three years in New York, I saw up-close her remarkable expertise in designing a vibrant, Christ-centered ministry for children and their families. Her uncommon creativity and vast experience will be invaluable to us as we launch what will be one of the most crucial areas of ministry at City Church."
