City Church Affiliates With ECO

Earlier this year I asked our founding core leaders to engage with me in a process of discernment about the denominational future of City Church. Over the next many months we gathered to pray, study, seek wise counsel, and discuss this. We all came to the conclusion that the best long-term fit for City Church is ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians.

For many reasons I’m excited about how ECO will help us realize the mission of City Church. ECO’s core values align with City Church’s. ECO is committed to the authority of scripture, winsomely reformed, devoted to relational accountability, enthusiastically missional, and gospel-centered. They celebrate the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to all believers and extend leadership opportunities to gifted, qualified, and trained women, as well as men.

While this will not have much of an impact on Sunday mornings, we believe ECO will enable us to best execute the vision the Lord has entrusted to us at City Church and most effectively care for those who call City Church home.

Please join us next week at either of two evening gatherings where we will discuss this decision, ECO and their distinctives, and our anticipated timeline. The content we’ll be sharing will be identical both evenings, and you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions:

Sunday, November 12 | 6:30 - 8 PM | 2213 Sul Ross
Thursday, November 16 | 7 - 8:30 PM | The Black Labrador

Linc and I will also be visiting city groups during the month of November. Click here to see the city group schedule.

We are also available to meet personally with anyone who would like to discuss this or learn more. To schedule an appointment with me click here or with Linc here.

As many of you know, CIty Church began as a church plant of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). We leave the PCA with profound respect and admiration for it. I have served 25 years as a PCA pastor and am extraordinarily grateful for that privilege and for the countless individuals in the PCA who have shaped my life and ministry. We plan to continue partnering with PCA ministries such as church planting and Reformed University Fellowship.

Please join me in praying that our Lord’s church might reflect his glory and grace as we move forward together.
