Have you ever been on a really long road trip? They can be so much fun! Car games, good music, some snacks. I love a good road trip. But, have you ever been on a road trip on a camel? I haven't, but the people we are learning about today went on a road trip. And that’s right, they road on a camel. These men were called the wise men. They traveled through desserts and mountains and valleys and rivers all on a camel.
They did it all to see Jesus. God put a star in the sky and they followed it all the way to Jesus. They had waited a long time for their promised king and savior. They would travel any length to get to him.
Jesus was not the type of king most people were expecting. He didn’t come with great power. He came as a baby and as a servant.
Serving others this Christmas season can look like a multitude of things: Finding a way to meet people where they are at, even if you can’t physically be with them is a great place to start. Surprise a friend with a home-cooked meal, write a note of encouragement to your delivery driver. Send a box of resources to a shelter or an organization you know. No act is too small. Our servant-king started small too.
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
