Because You’re There

Because You’re There

In 2005 The Pew Research Center started tracking the use of social media by American adults. At that time, Myspace was in its prime, Facebook had one year under its belt, and messaging platforms like AIM were increasingly popular.

Five percent of American adults used at least one social media platform in 2005, but by 2011, that number rose to 50 percent. Today, Pew’s most recent social media fact sheet indicates that “69% of the public uses some type of social media.”

While young adults formed the initial base of early adopters, today’s metrics tell a new story. Usage by older adults has dramatically increased, painting a picture of cross-generational connectivity.

So why is it important for City Church to have a strong presence online? Why do we put energy into Facebook posts? Why do we focus on content within Instagram and IGTV?

Because you’re there.

Because your friends are there.

Because our city is there.

Our mission is to bring beauty into broken places, and one small way we can do this is by sharing a message of hope through social media. Maybe the gospel is able to speak into someone’s life through a sermon clip that’s shared. Or maybe a quote from a blog post is exactly what someone needs to make it through the workday. And maybe a friend’s personal invitation to a City Church service is a reminder that they don’t have to do life alone.

Help us spread the word about City Church! Spend some time on our website. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Check out our newly launched IGTV channel.
